Transfer news LIVE: Coutinho seals Villa move, Wood to Newcastle MEDICAL, Chelsea LATEST, Adama Traore UPDATE

Good morning football fans

Aston Villa have landed a potentially sensational deal by loaning out Phillipe Coutinho from Barcelona.

The Brazilian playmaker turned down several other Premier League clubs from joining Steven Gerrard’s villa until the end of the season.

Coutinho played with Gerrard at Liverpool and said the chance to play under him was a key factor in his move to Villa Park.

And in a typically swift January transfer train, Burnley striker Chris Wood was en route to Tyneside last night for a medical ahead of his move to Newcastle.

The New Zealand forward continued to shine in a struggling Clarets side and appeared ready to be drafted to bolster the Toon’s Prem’s hopes of survival.

Wood, 30, joined Burnley from Leeds in 2017 and has scored more than 10 Prem goals for them in every season he has been there.

The Magpies are also reportedly in talks with Monaco to sign £33million centre-back Benoit Badiashile.

French outlet L’Equipe claim the Toon sent representatives to a meeting with Ligue 1 side officials last weekend.

And Chelsea could make themselves even less popular with Tottenham by reportedly beating them in the signing of Wolves star Adama Traore.

The Football Terrace say the Blues are interested in signing the versatile and powerful forward this month.

This news follows reports claiming Spurs are making a nearly £20million transfer for the 25-year-old.
