Southside Beach: Cliff collapse rescue mission underway near Bells Beach

Four people are trapped in a cliff collapse near a nude beach, not far from one of Australia’s most famous surfing spots

A rescue mission is underway to rescue four people trapped by falling debris after a cliff gave way southwest of Melbourne.

Part of a cliff collapsed near Southside Beach, a nudist beach not far from Bells Beach, on New Year’s Eve at around 2:15 p.m.

Police said six people were sitting under the cliff when it collapsed, with debris falling on three people.

A man and a woman suffered life-threatening injuries while a 28-year-old man was evacuated by helicopter.

Nobody else was hurt.
