When it turned out that the PlayStation 5 would hit the market with detachable faceplates, which, in Sony’s own speech, made this the most customizable console ever … It also quickly became apparent that this was a move to make some money later!
Well, Sony even started moving in that direction right away. In the end, the Japanese giant decided to patent the design to prevent fashion companies from creating faceplates for the console. But the approval took over a year, and so we had several companies trying to get some water from the spring, so to make some money with this “innovation”.
Sony has finished the game. PS5 faceplates are patented
As you may know, right after the PS5 announcement, we had a lot of companies taking advantage of the next generation console design to release all kinds of customizable faceplates. As was the case with Dbrand and PlateStation5.
Sony deployed its legal team at the same rate that these companies were getting their products to market. Although all of Sony’s inquiries are based on the fact that the faceplates were designed by Sony, the truth of the matter is that the Japanese giant still did not have a patent. Well then … already there!
In this way, Sony is now the only company in the world that has been able to sell side plates for the PS5 for at least 15 years. Of course, the Japanese giant can and probably will license the rights to other companies. But if you want to sell faceplates for the console, you have to report it to Sony. There is no way to escape.
Besides, what do you think of all of this? It was obvious that sooner or later it was going to happen, wasn’t it? Please let us know what you think in the comments below.
