Smartphone RAM will leak faster and more efficiently

Sometimes it is easy to get confused by the nomenclature used in the tech world, while DDR5 RAM is only coming to the computer market now, in late 2021, and very gradually. LPDDR5 memory has long been part of the smartphone world! As it was an integral part of Xiaomi Mi 10, which was originally released in February 2020.

Well, it’s time to say hello to LPDDR5X memory, with Samsung making a big leap on the technology.

So if you don’t know the differences, those LP in LPDDR5X comes from ‘low power’. That said, this type of storage has the ultimate goal of being extremely efficient. At the same time, of course, it has to be flexible to implement in the most diverse types of mobile devices.

However, Samsung today announced the completion of the development of its first LPDDR5X (Low Power Double Data Rate 5X) RAM memory chips based on the 14 nm production process. It’s a technology that will obviously make it to smartphones at some point (probably in 2022), but for now the focus is on AI applications. Metaverse and 5G.

However, in terms of performance gains and market changes, we expect an aggressive increase in the amount of RAM in today’s high-end devices, with LPDDR5X allowing up to 64GB per memory package. (Each chip is 16 GB). In addition, the new chips achieve speeds of around 8.5 Gbps per second. In other words, they’re 1.3x faster than the current high-end 6.4 Gbps LPDDR5 memory.

Besides, what do you think of all of this? Ready for LPDDR5X? By 2022 we should already have a few smartphones with these new “boys”. Please let us know what you think in the comments below.
