There’s no denying that the craze for these types of devices has waned somewhat compared to when Samsung and Huawei were in a real race to first launch a folding device.
In fact, lately there has even been an opinion that foldables, at least in their current form, simply have no reason to be in the market. Or they should lose a lot of the spotlights to develop at their own pace. However, Samsung seems to have had some success in this strange year of 2021!
Samsung’s bet on foldables has paid off in 2021
So the enthusiasm is no longer the same, but neither is the cost of production. So, despite a crisis in the mix, Samsung used the year 2021 to bring two very different folding models onto the market. The “Pro” Galaxy Z Fold 3 for 1,800 euros and the “Casual” Galaxy Z Flip 3 for 1,100 euros.
Two devices that brought this design philosophy closer to the most normal consumers. A bet that seems to have paid off, because according to the manufacturers’ own words, these devices sold more in one month than the rest of the foldable range, and in the entire time after the market launch.
However, despite the strong claim, Samsung chose not to share real metrics. I prefer to say that the forecasts were significantly exceeded. These projections pointed to 9 million folding devices sold in 2021.
In addition to the sales success, according to Samsung, the Z-Flip and Z-Fold series can now steal customers from other brands, namely from direct competitors such as Apple, Oppo and Xiaomi. Why this exchange? Well … Samsung has something that nobody else has. We’re talking about something unique that catches the eye and brings the word “premium” back to the side of the South Korean giant.
