as we reported here, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 with 12GB of memory is finally a reality, although the manufacturer hasn’t made much of a fuss with its official launch. Most likely because the price is a disgrace.
RTX 3080 with 12GB is more expensive than RTX 3090!
So after so many rumors and “leaks” the card is really a reality as it has been added to the NVIDIA website and of course the latest drivers from the current dominant force in the graphics card market. However, it’s also a card coming to market, with a suggested price much higher than the original price of what until recently was the best-performing card in the industry… The RTX3090.
In fact, there isn’t even a retail price yet, with this mission accounting for partnerships like ASUS, MSI, etc. But all things considered, the latest NVIDIA graphics card that brings more memory along with a wider bus as well as more CUDA processing cores start in 1300 €.
To give you an idea, EVGA’s 12GB RTX 3080 XC3 version is ~40% more expensive than the “regular” 10GB version. However, in the case of ASUS, the cheapest RTX 3080 12GB hits the market for €1519. Something incredible since the RTX 3090 reached €1500 when it came out.
How did the 12GB RTX 3080 become a reality?
Well, it’s very likely that NVIDIA found an opportunity in a “grandito” batch of GPUs that qualified above the RTX 3080 but below the RTX 3080 Ti. So, in a time of production crisis and high demand… anything goes! They even sell virtually identical boards at ridiculous prices.
