RTX 3050: Finally! Replacement for the GTX 1660 Super!

While the inventory (and prices) of current graphics cards don’t seem to be normalizing, giant NVIDIA has decided to bet on a new model for 2022, most likely in the middle of the year.

We’re talking about the RTX 3050, a graphics card that is said to offer better performance than the current but old GTX 1660 Super.

So this release serves as a response to a possible successful midrange board launch by Intel early next year, while NVIDIA also covers the flanks to prepare for an AMD attack on the midrange or mid / low range.

As for the card itself, the RTX 3050 or RTX 3050 Ti for notebooks is based on the GA107 GPU, while the new RTX 3050 for desktops uses the more powerful GA106. In terms of specifications, 3,072 CUDA cores and 8 GB of GDDR6 memory are expected, this last “specification” should be a big advantage over the offers of the competition in the same price range.

In terms of performance, however, this card is very likely to be slower than the current RTX 2060. It is clear that it contains the new 12 GB version that is to be presented at CES 2022.

Why wait so long for this release? Well … Because most likely, NVIDIA no longer wanted to promote Samsung’s production lines. Furthermore, everything indicates that the goal is to meet demand with the old, but less complex, “new” RTX 2060. To bring the new RTX 3050 onto the market a little later. When production problems are not that difficult, and with a dent price.
