(Review) Sony WF-C500: Merry Christmas 2021 Surprise

Sony doesn’t need an introduction or introduction to the audio world, especially in the mobile department. After all, it is a brand with several product lines, which in the ‘premium’ area is quite able to rule with high quality, as we have already done with the WH-1000XM3, WH-1000XM4, WF-1000XM3 and WF-1000XM4 .

But now it’s time to look into a slightly lower price range with the WF-C500. A clear attempt by Sony to bring some of its magic to consumers with fewer euros in their pockets. Did it work?

(Review) Sony WF-C500: Merry Christmas 2021 Surprise

Technical specifications

  • driver: 5.8 mm
  • frequency: 20Hz-20,000Hz (44.1kHz)
  • DSEE
  • autonomy: 10 hours, 20 hours in total and
  • IPX4
  • Dimensions: 80 x 34.9 x 30.9 mm
  • weight: 35g

Hence, it is already possible to find this WF-C500 between € 79 and € 99 in various commercial finishes, which of course puts this Sony offering in an odd place where it has to compete with Samsung, Huawei, Google, JBL, nothing, etc … In a super competitive range and always with more quality.

However, Sony has some perks that will definitely draw consumers to its bank.

At the end of the day, we have BT 5.0, compatibility with SBS and AAC codecs, and of course a pair of 5.8mm full-range neodymium drivers.

In addition, we also have 10 hours of autonomy out-of-the-box, which in turn is able to offer an additional 10 hours for a total of 20 hours. We also offer fast charging support, where these Sony earbuds can deliver 1 hour of battery life with just 10 minutes of charging.

Unfortunately, we don’t have wireless charging on these TWS earbuds.

Performance and feasibility

As usual, we can control Sony earphones ourselves using the excellent “Headphones Connect” app as well as touch movements on the product. But since we’re talking about software, we have to point out support for Sony’s proprietary DSEE technology that promises to upscale your music to a high-res level.

In addition, the app also supports Sony’s 360 Reality Audio algorithm, EQ customization, BT connection customization, virtual assistants, etc.

To be honest, when 75% of the device is hidden in our ear canal, the design of an earbud doesn’t matter that much. Still, Sony is able to present us with a youthful design that is still simple enough to please 99% of consumers.

In terms of comfort, however, I find this WF-C500 superior to the high-end models from Sony, they weigh only 5.4 g per bud, which for me at least means that in my ears they are practically nonexistent for a long time are useful life. .

Finally, there is the case, which continues the design philosophy of the earphones! To be handsome and well built, if nothing special, but able to do a magazine cover.

The sound!

That’s the most important! And in this case we have a good surprise from Sony. These WF-C500s are by no means your best bet if you want the richest audio possible and bass that can shake your head. Nevertheless, they are definitely one of the best alternatives in this price range! The presentation of clear sound and, above all, very balanced.

In short, they are generally about earbuds that offer a good sound experience, opt for a slightly more conventional profile, and are less risky. So, just like in the design, they will meet the dimensions of 99% of consumers.

Well, Sony had a grand mission to bring some of the features of its high-end products at a lower price. Result? Success!

Sony has managed to put some of its magic into this product without taking too many short cuts. Yes, there are alternatives that can offer more emotion in some sound styles, but Sony wins by being able to have a good experience in all areas. In short, it does not focus on anything and, as such, has a good result in everything.
