“Old Man” Harrison Net Worth $ 9 Million

How rich is “Old Man” Harrison? Sources estimate that Harrison has a net worth of $ 9 million. You could say that Harrison’s entire fortune came from his pawn shop, first from store sales and later from his and his television appearances, including on a show of his own.

Harrison and his family moved to Lexington, North Carolina, where Richard attended Lexington High School but left at his younger age. The family was poor and Richard worked as a school bus driver from the age of 14 to make ends meet. He got up extremely early and made from five to six dollars a week. In the late 1950s, Harrison was convicted of car theft and chose to serve in the Navy rather than go to jail – he served virtually non-stop for 20 years.

Harrison’s last post was in San Diego, where his wife became a real estate agent and Richard worked in her office after his release. When the business went bust, however, the family moved to Las Vegas, where Richard and son Rick started their own business by starting a store called the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop. In 1989 this became “The World Famous Gold and Silver Pawn Shop” and was the point at which Harrison began growing his fortune by working there around the clock. His store gained a huge boost in popularity when it was featured on a Comedy Central show, “Insomniac with Dave Attell,” which increased customer numbers from 70 to 700.

Then Richard and his son looked for ways to get their own show on television. Son Rick introduced the idea to various studios until it was picked up on the History channel. Her show, “Pawn Stars”, debuted in July 2009, has now aired over 250 episodes in seven seasons and has proven to be the most popular show on history channels, such as “American Restoration”.

Harrison and his family have received a variety of awards over the years including the Key to Las Vegas City in 2010 and the Key to Lexington City in 2012. A father and son were also nominated for 2012 Time 100 Listings. As for his personal life, Richard Harrison met Jo-Anne Rhue, his future wife, at a barn dance when he was 17 and married in 1960. They have four children – Sherry, Joseph, Rick and Chris. Sherry was born first but had medical complications and died when she was six years old. Richard’s particular hobby is collecting cars of all kinds. For one particular car, a 1966 Chrysler Imperial, he fought for fifteen years until he convinced the owner to sell it to him. Harrison’s other passion is of course his shop. He has not missed a working day there for over 17 years.
