New Android TV remote control comes into the Google Home app

In Leak we already mentioned that the search engine giant has been working on integrating a virtual remote control for Android TV into the Google Home app for some time. However, this was officially confirmed last month and has now just arrived as promised.

It’s true that the Google TV app already has a built-in remote control for Android TV / Google TV. Now Google is relying on the same function for the Google Home application. The page 9to5Google discovered this in version 2.46 of the Google Home application, which has reached the Google Play Store. Since Google Home is a central hub for managing all of your smart and connected devices, it is only natural that you can now control your Android TV devices too.

To configure the remote control, open the Google Home application, visit the device page and there you can assign the new command. However, you will need to enter a pairing code which will be displayed on Android TV.

The remote control has a large touchpad. There’s a power button in the top left corner while the back, main, and Google Assistant buttons are at the bottom. However, this command lacks some features compared to the one in the Google TV application. For example, the remote control does not have volume and mute buttons. There is also no option to switch from a touchpad to a D-pad. At least for now. This will come at some point in a future update.

This remote control comes with version 2.46 of the Google Home application. To try it out, update the Google Home app from the Google Play Store or download APKMirror APK.

The Google Home app has had many new additions in recent months, including a built-in speed test for the Nest WiFi router, the ability to turn Duo off, and get notifications when you’re not home.
