Ms. Marvel’s MCU performance changes can be carried over to the comics

Kamala Khan, Ms. Marvel, is set to make her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) soon, with a few changes from her original incarnation. According to promotional images from the series Mrs. Marvel, from Disney +. the heroine’s powers, rather than allowing the free manipulation of her body mass, are linked to the emission of energy, similar to DC Comics’ Green Lantern. And apparently that change is being implemented in the comics as well.

The reason for this change in Kamala Khan’s powers in the MCU is not yet known. Some believe this is a way for the character to create a greater bond with Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, while others believe that in Reed Richards’ later debut, Mr. Fantastic in the movie universe, his powers can be switched in a visually unique way.

The decision was not so well accepted among fans of Marvel’s Muslim superhero, as many claimed that the change in Kamala’s powers represented a drastic change for the character, affecting her ancestry and the entire process of discovery she has gone through since her creation the comics.

Also in the comics?

There is some evidence that the change will happen in the comics as well. According to the table of contents of the new monthly magazine Ms. Marvel: Beyond the Line, with scripts by Samira Ahmed and art by Andres Genolet, the heroine’s world is turned upside down after an explosion of interdimensional proportions in the laboratory of Trevor Khan, Kamala’s cousin, created problems with the teenager’s powers.

Of course, nothing can be said about the future character of the new magazine only based on the picture and the table of contents. Also, comics in general like to use phrases like “the world has been turned upside down” to generate Hype for the narratives.

So far it has been known that Samira Ahmed wants to explore new territories with the powers of Ms. Marvel in the new magazine, claiming they are a metaphor for adolescence, a phase Kamala has been going through since its inception. In addition, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the screenwriter confirmed that the story will question the true origins of the heroine’s powers.

In the end, it’s possible Kamala’s powers won’t change at all, but speculating is part of the fun of this hero universe, isn’t it?

Ms. Marvel: Beyond the Limit # 1 comes to the Gringo kiosk in December and the heroine series on Disney + is scheduled to start in 2022.
