Google Maps is without a doubt an excellent navigation application. There is one problem, however. It takes up more and more memory and resources of the smartphone. Therefore, some users have been looking for alternatives. One of them, and perhaps the best, is undoubtedly Google Maps Go. It is also from Google and is in practice a lighter version of the original map. But is it worth leaving the original app to use Google Maps Go?
Google Maps: Alternative makes your smartphone faster!
The important thing is that Google Maps Go is designed for devices with more modest features. The cheapest smartphones, which are usually equipped with a weaker processor and less memory. However, it has many advantages for all devices in the Android ecosystem.
However, it can be downloaded normally from the Play Store on any device. In fact, it can even run side by side with the original Google Maps. So we don’t lose anything when using it.
Google Maps Go has almost everything else but still lacks some features that were in the original Maps. Now is the time to find out whether we are missing or not.
This is just one of the biggest absences on Google Maps Go. We cannot download and use offline maps in this version of the app. That means we always have to use mobile data. In any case, and with the data plans we currently have, this shouldn’t be a huge problem for most users.
Location cannot be shared in real time
It is also not possible to report real-time locations and problems on Google Maps Go.
It is also not possible to measure the distance between different points. In any case, this shouldn’t be a big problem for many either.
But we have door-to-door navigation
Google Maps comes with a door-to-door navigation system and supports all popular modes that are available in the full version of the app. Namely driving, transit, walking and cycling instructions. Motorcyclists and scooters are also entitled to these modules. However, they are only available in some regions.
But there is one important point. It’s just that the navigation in this app isn’t from scratch. That said, it’s just another separate thing called navigating to Google Maps. It can also be downloaded from the Play Store.
Is it worth acting?
The consumption of resources is very low and for those who have a full-fledged smartphone and do not want to lose performance, it is undoubtedly an excellent option. Perhaps the biggest loss is offline maps. But as I said, we can live well without it.
Google Maps Go is available for Android in the Play Store. However, for navigation you need to install the Google Maps Go Navigation app available here.
