If you use Gmail, prepare for a big account change in the coming weeks. If in the past we only had to enter our email address and password to access Gmail in most cases, now everything will change. This way, two-factor authentication is enabled for all accounts by default, so it is a good idea to be prepared for it already. It’s just that if you don’t take care of things, you can’t access it.
Gmail Alert: Google is Going to Make a Big Change to Accounts!
Two-factor authentication makes everything more secure. This is because more than a simple password is required to access our account.
So when we want to enter, we have to enter the code that arrives in a message so that the search engine giant can tell if we really are.
However, Google has already explained why this is becoming mandatory. It’s just that personal information is like gold to criminals. In fact, there is a growing body of identity theft and personal information that can be used for extortion and many other things. With this system, everything becomes much more difficult.
According to the Android Police website, several people have already started receiving an email explaining what will happen and that they will need more than one password to access the emails.
Can I now activate two-factor authentication?
Yes, whoever does this is already prepared and does not need to make any further changes when this system is introduced.
The first thing you need to do is go to your Google Account Management. You can access it here. After entering your data and registration. When you get to the account management window later, select the Security option from the menu on the left. The pictures that I present here are from the desktop version. But if you’re using a smartphone or tablet, you can do everything the same way.
On the new page, find the Sign in to Google section. There you will see the Two Step Validation option. Choose this option.
In the new window click on Introduction. However, you will then have to log in again.
After entering your data, you will be taken to the screen shown below. However, the devices that can receive requests are displayed. In practice, these are the ones where you are authenticated with your Google account. In my case, it’s the iPhone, but it could be any other Android smartphone. Keep pressing.
As soon as you press Next, you will receive a request on your smartphone. You just have to say yes. At this point the registration will be approved. You will be prepared for the account change made by Google.
However, if you lose your phone or your second step is unavailable, you need an alternative way to access your account. However, just set up a contact number and choose whether the verification should be done by SMS or phone call.
Then just hit send. This is after entering the number. At this point, however, you will receive an SMS with a code that you will have to enter on the platform. From that moment on, you simply confirm everything and it is already protected. So you can be sure that nobody is logging into your Google account.
Can I use Google Authenticator for this?
Naturally. First, on the same Google page that you enabled two-factor authentication on, there’s an option below called Application Authenticator. Click on Configure.
Then a window will appear asking you for your phone. If Android, if iPhone. Just select and then click Next.
Then you have to run the authenticator in both cases. No matter if Android or iPhone. Then select Read QR Code.
In the meantime, a code will appear in the authenticator that you must enter in the configuration of your Google account. Then click Validate. And that’s it, setup is complete.
