FEMAIL reporter Hayley Richardson got both pizzas and was not told which is Pizza Hut’s new vegan option and which is their classic beef sizzler … here’s her verdict on the two goodies
PIZZA ONE: The Beyond Beef Sizzler: Meat-free Beyond Beef® Crumbles, mozzarella, red onions, fiery jalapeños and green chillies
When I looked at the pizzas side by side, I suspected this was the right meaty feast. The only visible difference between them was the size of the ground beef / Beyond Beef streusel.
These pieces looked heavier than the ones on the other pizza, which were much smaller – although there were more of them.
The consistency of the pieces tasted like ground beef, and although it didn’t have a particularly punchy taste, there was a faint taste of beef.
They could have used a little more seasoning, but the jalapenos and green chilies made sure this pizza still delivered flavor.
PIZZA TWO: Beef Sizzler: Green chillies, jalapeños, red onions, seasoned minced meat
I was pretty convinced that this was the vegetarian option just because I checked it out even though I tried the ground beef it didn’t turn out to be final.
To be honest, the “meat” pieces on both pizzas tasted very similar and had almost identical textures as it was very difficult to tell them apart (my partner, who was only too keen to try a slice, felt similar).
Overall, I think the slices on Pizza 1 had a slightly more meaty flavor, although the fact that more of them were scattered over the cheese on Pizza 2 made for a more consistent meat experience.
Both my partner and I concluded that pizza one was the real meat version … but it turned out we were wrong!
I am very surprised because the “Beyond Beef” pieces looked and tasted like real ground beef – even more than the real thing!
This is really the most impressive imitation meat I’ve ever tried.
