E3 2022 will only be online. Can blame COVID again

Contrary to what many of us expected, namely a more normal year 2021 and 2022, thanks to the “magic” of vaccination … Everything indicates that we are still going into the new year with very limited restrictions. This is exactly why there were several cancellations at CES 2022, which is why MWC 22 will most likely be canceled and of course because of COVID, namely the Omicron variant, E3 2022 should only be online.

Therefore, the ESA (Entertainment Software Association) has now announced that the 2022 edition of the well-known video game fair will be exclusively digital again. The rationale is very simple … The organization pointed out the new wave of cases related to the Omicron variant of COVID-19. Yes, the new variant appears to be less fatal as it has fewer severe symptoms, which in turn leads to fewer hospital stays.

However, bringing people from around the world together in one place seems like the ideal recipe for a new “boom” of cases. The organization doesn’t want to take any chances, and fine.

With this reversal, however, ESA has not yet confirmed the start dates of the fair. Something that is usually announced at the end of last year’s event. If everything moves forward in online format, it will be the second time E3 has taken this route as it was only canceled once in 2020 due to COVID-19.

The E3 started in 1995 and despite a few failures like Sony remains one of the largest video game fairs in the world.
