Amazon Web Services (AWS) is partnering with government-led tech company PUBLIC to launch its accelerator program for UK-based digital healthcare startups.
The four-week virtual mentoring opportunity is open to innovative companies that focus on electoral care, population health, citizen access and the workforce.
A cohort of 10 selected healthcare startups will receive AWS promotional credits, specialized AWS training, mentoring from healthcare professionals and tech topics, business development, go-to-market and investment advice, and potential proofs of concept in public health customers.
AWS and PUBLIC will also bring together leading companies in the healthcare industry to work with startups on topics such as business model definition, regulatory pathways, clinical validation and electronic health record (EHR) integration.
The selected startups will also have the opportunity to work with AWS customers and members of the AWS partner network in search of innovative healthcare solutions.
Applications were opened last month and must be submitted by December 5, 2021.
WHY IT IS IMPORTANT
The AWS Healthcare Accelerator aims to cultivate and promote innovative startup solutions that achieve the fourfold goal of improved patient experience, improved clinical experience, better health outcomes, and lower care costs.
Designed to accelerate growth in the cloud, it focuses on innovation in areas such as remote patient monitoring, mental health support solutions, care navigation, analytics to support triage and prioritization, and employee productivity tools.
THE GREATER CONTEXT
The rollout follows the U.S. AWS Health Accelerator Program, held earlier this year in partnership with the KidsX digital health incubator.
Also earlier this year, AWS announced that it would distribute $ 12 million in computing credits and expertise to cloud-based disease detection and diagnostic tools.
In the UK, DigitalHealth.London recently welcomed applicants to its flagship digital health start-up accelerator program, which will begin in January 2022.
ON THE RECORD
Dr. Rowland Illing, Director and Chief Medical Officer, International Public Sector Health, AWS, said, “The adoption of digital health innovations has enabled the NHS to deliver a world-leading immunization program that leverages its inherent talent and collaborative, patient-centric ability to transform pace. Now her focus is on removing backlogs in elective care, continuing to implement the NHS long-term plan, and focusing on transforming services in support of NHS resilience.
“At the same time, the health and care system is trying to optimize the growing volume of health data in order to further improve patient outcomes and operational decisions. To support both promising healthcare startups and the UK healthcare system’s demand for such solutions, we are pleased to announce the launch of the AWS Healthcare Accelerator program in the UK. “
Daniel Korski, CEO and Co-Founder of PUBLIC, said, “Startups need the right tools, support and environment to go down this path and ultimately help patients, clinicians and administrators. AWS and PUBLIC are working together to deliver the AWS Healthcare Accelerator to create a robust pipeline of health innovations that can support the NHS. “
