We are currently very exposed when it comes to security. This is because we always take our smartphones with us everywhere and there are several applications in them that can spy on us. If you have an Android smartphone and you share these concerns, there is a new app that may be keeping you from following it. It’s undoubtedly an excellent tool, and it’s owned by the well-known DuckDuckGo company, which offers a search engine that rivals Chrome and is more privacy-focused.
Android: There’s a new free app that will stop them from following you!
The tool is called App Tracking Protection and its main goal is to block our data from being passed on to third parties. Interestingly, it’s implemented in the DuckDuckGo browser, but it works for the entire operating system. In a blog post, the company reveals that this tool identifies apps that could pose a risk to our privacy and acts accordingly.
Once activated, this feature will run in the background while you are using your smartphone. In addition, as the company reveals, this tool is constantly updated and, as such, is always supported for an increasing number of applications. However, it is possible in real time to see what is blocking the tool and where the data has gone.
Although App Tracking Protection is not a VPN, the device behaves like one. This is because in practice a local VPN is created for things to go there. The difference is that our data never passes an external server referenced by The Verge website.
But how many applications follow us?
A study by DuckDuckGo shows that over 96% of the most popular Android apps follow us. Today, 87% of these apps send data to Google, while 68% share it on Facebook.
The tool is currently in beta, but we can join a private waiting list.
All we have to do is download the browser from the Play Store and go to the settings in the app to register with the tool.
