AMD may release Threadripper 5000 processors with up to 64 cores in August release

Published

on

The introduction of the Zen 3 microarchitecture along with the Ryzen 5000 family of processors has been one of the most important steps AMD has made in recent times, and the technology was responsible for the company’s prominence at the time. Thanks to numerous improvements to the design of the chips without significantly changing the manufacturing processes used, the manufacturer has achieved considerable leaps in performance.

Servers and data centers also got a taste of performance with the Epyc Milan 7003 processors, but missed a heavy segment when first introduced – high-performance desktops, or HEDT. Positioned between the general public and more advanced heavy-duty machines, this group of enthusiasts remains limited to the Threadripper 3000 line, which is based on the Zen 2 microarchitecture.

However, the situation could soon change, as evidenced by the latest rumors of the next line of Threadripper processors released this week.

Threadripper 5000 could arrive in August

According to information on the website MoePCAMD’s next-generation HEDT chips, code-named “Chagall,” will be called Threadripper 5000, which would group all of the brand’s processor lines under the same number. A similar decision was made for the traditional Ryzens, which jumped from the 3000s to the 5000s, but the processors wouldn’t bring such significant changes from their predecessors.

With a focus on the TRX40 platform compatibility, the Threadripper 5000 series must maintain specifications such as DDR4 memory and PCI-E 4.0 interface (Image: Playback / MoePC)

In addition to maintaining the core number, which would reach 64, the Threadripper 5000 would continue to use DDR4 memory and offer a PCI-E 4.0 interface despite DDR5 modules already available on the market. The explanation is plausible – the models would be compatible with the TRX40 platform, just like the Threadripper 3000 range, which would reduce the cost for users who want to jump into the new generation.

However, that is not to say that the new CPUs will not make significant advances in some aspects, such as performance.

What is known about new CPUs for enthusiasts?

Rumor has it that Threadripper 5000 chips will hit the market based on the new Zen 3 microarchitecture, blessed with the improvements seen on other processors with the same technology. The Zen 3 cores alone provide a 19% increase in the number of calculations per clock (IPC).

In addition to the Zen 3 architecture, the Threadripper 5000 will have higher clocks and an improved cache (Image: Playback / MoePC)

The new design will also significantly reduce latency times, as Core Complexes (CCX) relies on 8 instead of 4 cores as in the previous generation, plus 32 MB CCX unified cache, double that of the Threadripper 3000 series, whose cache is also below Delays suffered shared.

Further highlights are higher clock rates, better efficiency thanks to the improved 7 nm lithography from TSMC, 16 GT to 18 GT speed increase with xGMI (Inter-Chip Global Memory Interconnect), CCX-to-CCX communication interface similar to Infinity Fabric in common Ryzen Chips, and more. According to previous rumors, the line will be made official in August and the chips will hit stores in September.

The Threat Analysis Group also claims that some hacked accounts have been sold in the credentials market, with prices ranging from $ 3 (about R $ 17 at current prices) to $ 4,000 (about $ 4,000 at current prices) depending on the number of subscribers.

According to Ashley Shen, security engineer at TAG, social engineering scams have been known for decades but are on the rise in 2021 as online service users adopt multi-factor authentication more widely, compounding the theft process. difficult credentials that require more effort to gain access to an account.

Shen concludes by stating that since May 2021, TAG has managed to block 99.6% of the emails used in these scams.
