AMD has its new RX 6500 XT on PCIe 4.0 x4. limited

As you may know, AMD and NVIDIA announced news of “budget” graphics cards during CES 2022 in an attempt to circumvent the crisis that continues to plague this segment of the computing world.

What you probably didn’t know is that the new AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT is limited to the PCIe 4.0 x4 interface. Do you know why?

Therefore the AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT has only one PCIe 4.0 x4 interface according to the specifications of various manufacturers. That is, a connection that complies with PCIe 3.0 x8 or PCIe 2.0 x16. It is one level lower than the RX 6600 XT, which has a PCIe 4.0 x8 interface, which in turn is below the RX 6700 XT with a PCIe 4.0 x16 interface.

Do you know why? Well … it’s pretty simple. The card does not require more bandwidth than the almost 8 GB / s offered by the PCIe 4.0 x4 interface.

However, in case you didn’t know, the RX 6500 XT is also missing some of the video processing features we find in other models in the same range. Just like the example for the coding and decoding function via H264 / HEVC and AV1.
